An Author's Visit

Today 5th and 6th class were delighted to have the pleasure to meet the author of our class novel 'Young Rebels', Morgan Llywelyn in St Andrew's School.

During her visit she talked about how she became a writer, where she gets her inspiration for her books and characters from and how to draw influence from your environment and life experiences.

We also got the opportunity to ask her questions of our own....

...and get our book signed!

A HUGE thank you to St Andrew's for inviting us, we had a great day.

Class Trip to St Enda's

As part of the FAB book project, 5th and 6th class have been reading the novel "The Young Rebels" by Morgan Llywelyn, which has also helped us to learn all about life during the time of the 1916 Rising.

As part of the FAB project, we visited St Enda's school, founded by Padraig Mac Piarais, which has now been turned into a museum.

We had a lovely tour guide that told us a lot of interesting facts and stories about the school and the Pearse Family.

Some of us decided that the greeting area was our favourite room in the house, even though it contained some sad history, while others favoured the dorm room where the boys slept with the roaring fire and beautiful views of the garden.

During the tour, we had the opportunity to visit the Nature Room and the class room out in the court yard.  It gave us a great insight as to how school life was in St Enda's 100 years ago.  It was interesting comparing it to our classroom today.

Can you spot the REAL frog in the picture?

We were even lucky enough to sit outside in the court yard and relax in the sun just like the boys did 100 years ago in St Enda's.

Place Value Fun!!

This week in Maths we are focusing on Place Value. So far we're revised our work from fourth class and discussed how we can tell the value of a digit by looking at its place within a number! We also had fun using materials to make numbers our partners called out! Do you know what the value of the '2' is in                                                          3,254? Ask us! I bet we know the answer!

Welcome Back!!!!

Ms. Collins was delighted to welcome everyone back to 5th class this year and what a beautiful bunch you are! So far we've enjoyed reminiscing on Summer 2015 and catching up with our friends! We hope you'll stop by our blog every so often for updates on our work!
